Office of the Registrar

Evaluations of Transfer Credit

Evaluations of coursework completed at other colleges or universities are completed in the Office of the Registrar once a student is admitted and commits to the offer. Generally, courses from regionally accredited colleges and universities are accepted, provided such credits carry a grade of "C" or better and are comparable to courses offered at CNU. Transfer credit is not granted for developmental or remedial courses.

In accordance with the State Policy on Transfer, CNU adheres to the State Policy on Transfer. Applicants who present the AA, AS, or AA&S degrees consisting of native VCCS credit are awarded junior status provided they meet the standards for admission at the time of application.  Further, these students are considered to have fulfilled the Liberal Learning Core Curriculum requirements (general education requirements) in effect at the time of his/her admission to the university . Please note that it may take such students longer than two years to complete the baccalaureate degree because of major prerequisites and other circumstances or requirements.

A maximum of 66 semester hours from two-year colleges or 92 semester hours from four-year colleges may transfer to CNU. Academic policy requires that the last  45 semester hours of a CNU undergraduate degree must be earned in residence. CNU does not accept credit granted by another institution through course challenge, portfolio assessment, experiential learning, or other non-traditional forms of testing.

  • Credit earned through the Advanced Placement (AP) testing program of The College Board, Inc.;
